Course: LING 100
Term: Fall/Winter
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Sophia Blanchet:

I was sorry to read about the difficulties you are having which are particularly related to LING 100 (FW 2020/21). I have carefully considered your appeal to drop this course past the academic deadline and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal largely due to the documentation you have submitted, and I encourage you to continue to work with your counsellor. I suggest you discuss with your counsellor the possibility of registering with QSAS if ongoing accommodations are required. A QSAS Advisor can help support both your health and academics.

Going forward, you should pause and assess your progress in your courses or discuss your options with an Academic Advisor during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline. An appeal would not be granted due to a downward trend in the course grade.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Best of luck in the balance of your courses this term.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
