Term: Winter
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Connor Chin:
I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal the challenges you outlined and understand how your health-related challenges as well as COVID 19 may have affected your studies. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ECON 222 and ECON 250 (W 2021) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have granted this appeal based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation, but I suggest that you discuss with your health care provider the possibility of registering with QSAS if your challenges will be ongoing. QSAS can assist you with implementing accommodations and will help you manage both your health and your academics.
Going forward, you should carefully assess your progress in your courses during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop courses by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline. The appeal process is not designed to manage ongoing circumstances.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Best of luck in your other courses this term.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
