Dear Ramsha Nawaz:

I was sorry to read of the circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal, no doubt this has been difficult to deal with along with the challenges you have experienced in relation to COVID19 and I will grant your appeal to drop POLS 385, BIOL 243 and GPHY 247 (W 2021) past the academic deadline based on those circumstances.

I encourage you to reach out to reach out to your health care provider or one of the remote counselling services available Ramsha if you feel you would like to speak with someone regarding the passing of your grandfather. If you continue to experience health related challenges due to the passing of your grandfather, you may want to register with QSAS who can help support both your health and academics by putting in place appropriate accommodations so you can meet your course work requirements. Let me also advise you of the Academic Consideration service where a student can request short term accommodations if you require leeway with assignment due dates. Here is the link for information about that process:

Going forward, I encourage you to pause and evaluate your progress in courses during week 7 of the term and if you have been unable to keep up with the course requirements or feel that dropping a course is in your best interest, you should do so by the week 8 drop date deadline.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
