Appeal Number: 7543
Decision Date: April 19, 2021
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Amanda Preston-Walker
Student Email: 18azlp@queensu.ca
Course: FREN 343
Term: Winter
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Amanda Preston-Walker:
I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal the challenges you outlined, and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop FREN 343 (W 2021) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have granted this appeal based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation, but I suggest that you discuss with your health care team, the possibility of registering with QSAS, if you are not registered with them currently, and if your challenges will be ongoing. QSAS can assist you by implementing accommodations and will help you manage both your health and your academics.
Going forward, you should carefully assess your progress in your courses during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop courses by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
I encourage you to continue to seek out the supports available to you, including the online program (WellTtrack) that you indicate you are signed up for.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
