Dear Sydney Richardson:
I have carefully considered your appeal to drop BIOL 102 (F 2018), BIOL 103 (W 2019), CHEM 112, MATH 121 and PSYC 100 (FW 2018/2019) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
1) To grant your request to drop BIOL 103 (W 2019), CHEM 112, MATH 121 and PSYC 100 (FW 2018/2019) after the academic deadline. I understand from your letter of support that you left Queens once the Fall 2018 term ended and acknowledge that you may not have thought about dropping your Winter term classes in SOLUS upon deciding not to return in January. The grades that you received in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript to indicate that they have been dropped.
2) To deny your request to drop BIOL 102 (F 2018) as your appeal letter indicates that you completed this course, including writing the final exam and I see that you had only requested Academic Consideration from your instructor once in early October for a missed lab. I understand that this is a disappointing decision however, with the absence of documentation from a health-care professional to verify the impact that your health issues had on your academic abilities during the Fall 2018 term, I simply cannot grant this part of your request at this time.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines and the 21-day deadline can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€). Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).
Sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
