I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal of the challenges you experienced this year and have carefully considered your appeal to drop PHIL 247 (F 2020) and PHIL 250 (FW 2020/21) past the academic deadline.
I have granted this appeal based on the extenuating circumstances you have outlined and the documentation you submitted but the appeal process is not designed to manage a chronic condition. Instead, as suggested in your previous appeal decision letter, I strongly encourage you to discuss with your health-care professional the possibility of registering with QSAS and work with a QSAS advisor who can put in place some accommodations and may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health-related challenges.
Going forward, as noted previously, a good practice for all students to follow, is to evaluate their progress in their studies during week 7 of the term. If a student has fallen behind in a course or finds the material too difficult, they should drop courses by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
