I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal of the challenges you experienced this year and have carefully considered your appeal to drop SOCY 122 and PSYC 100 (FW 2020/21) past the academic deadline.
I have granted this appeal based on the extenuating circumstances you have outlined but this is a lenient decision Emma since normally a successful appeal includes documentation which supports the timeline, severity and impact your circumstances had on your studies. I strongly encourage you to follow through with your plan to register with QSAS and work with a QSAS advisor who may be able to help you manage your academics along with your health-related challenges.
Going forward, a good practice for all students to follow, is to evaluate their progress in their studies during week 7 of the term. If a student has fallen behind in a course or finds the material too difficult, they should drop courses by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
