Dear Maggie Scott:
I have read with interest your letter of appeal and your request to either discount your mid-term exam in PSYC 100 (FW 2020/21) or re-weight the mid-term exam.
Unfortunately, this is not something that the student can appeal. The information we have received from the Undergraduate Chair in Psychology confirms that the exam interruption was appropriately handled by the instructor and ITS. You were advised to skip the multiple-choice questions (MCQ) so that you did not need to redo them and that the MCQ would be pro-rated. ITS did call you after your issue was resolved to confirm that you were back in successfully. Maggie, since these remedies were given to you in the moment of the exam and the grades were adjusted accordingly, I cannot in good conscience approve additional adjustments to your grade.
In addition, Appeal Regulation 3.2.2 states that a student must appeal within 21 days of receiving the grade they wish to contest. Since this was a mid-term exam taken in December, the timeframe to appeal has expired.
This is a disappointing decision I am sure Maggie, but let me remind you that if a student repeats a course, the low grade is excluded from their grade point average and the higher grade is included which would mean there would be no long term negative impact on your GPA.
