I am sorry to read of your health-related challenges which you outlined in your letter of appeal, and I have carefully considered your request to drop ASTR 101 (W 2021) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have exercised significant leniency in this decision since an appeal to drop a course late would normally not be granted due to work related commitments. However, I have noted that circumstances related to COVID19 may have also impeded your ability to be successful in this course so decided to grant this appeal.
Jessica, I do encourage you to follow through with your plan take advantage of the counselling service once you resume your full-time studies. You might also want to consider registering with QSAS who can assist you with ongoing accommodations and help support both your health and your academics.
Going forward, I suggest that you carefully review your progress in your courses during week 7 or 8 of the term and assess whether you are actively engaged in your courses and are completing your assignments on time and to the grade level you would like. If not, you should drop courses by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute after that date.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
