I was sorry to read of the circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal and I am sorry for your loss. No doubt this has been difficult to deal with and I will grant your appeal to drop BCHM 218 (W 2021) past the academic deadline based on that circumstance and your documentation.
Cassandra, please note that if you encounter difficulties in the future, there are services available to assist you during difficult periods such as Student Wellness and the Academic Consideration service where a student can request short term consideration if you require leeway with assignment due dates. Going forward, a good practise for all students is to pause and evaluate your progress in courses during week 7 of the term and if you have been unable to keep up with the course requirements or feel that dropping a course is in your best interest, you should do so by the week 8 drop date deadline.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
