Appeal Number: 7738
Decision Date: May 31, 2021
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Rebecca Mata
Student Email: 19rnmg1@queensu.ca
Course: PHYS 118
Term: Fall/Winter
Year: 2020
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Rebecca Mata:
I was sorry to read of the circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal. No doubt it has been difficult to deal with COVID related challenges as well as the passing of your grandmother and I will grant your appeal to drop PHYS 118 (FW 2020/21) past the academic deadline based on those circumstances.
I encourage reach out to our Student Wellness Services Rebecca if you would like to discuss this loss with a counsellor. A counsellor may be able to assist you with any grief related feelings you may be dealing with.
Going forward, a good practise for all students is to pause and evaluate your progress in courses during week 7 of the term and if you have been unable to keep up with the course requirements or feel that dropping a course is in your best interest, you should do so by the week 8 drop date deadline.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
