I was sorry to read of the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop HLTH 101, KNPE 153, BIOL 102 (F 2020) and PSYC 100 (FW 2020/21) past the academic deadline as well as your additional request for Credit standing in KNPE 125. After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
€¢ To grant your request to drop HLTH 101, KNPE 153, BIOL 102 (F 2020) and PSYC 100 (FW 2020/21) past the academic deadline.
€¢ To deny your request for Credit standing in KNPE 125 (W 2021). The instructor of this course advised that the grade is an accurate reflection of the work you submitted and notes that you did not complete the Unit 3 Test nor did you successfully complete all of the lecture and course pack content. Additionally, you failed to attempt 7 out of 9 weekly quizzes throughout the course. Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.€ Credit standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student€™s control. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
I have granted the drop portion of your appeal based on the extenuating circumstances you have described, particularly related to Fall term, but I need to warn you that any further appeals will require documentation of the impact of your extenuating circumstances on the course or the time period in question. Additionally, technological issues are not normally grounds for appeal, but I did understand that this was an atypical year related to gaining access to Wi-Fi if it was not available in your place of residence during that time period.
Going forward, I suggest that you inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in the Important Dates section on the Arts and Science web page and assess your progress in your courses or discuss your options with an Academic Advisor during week 7 or 8 of the term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop by the end of week 8.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
