Dear Hannah Berube:

I was sorry to read of the challenges you have outlined in your letter of appeals, and I have carefully considered your request to drop ASTR 101 and BISC 101 (W 2021) past the academic deadline and receive Credit standing in ENGL 100, PSYC 100 (FW 2020/21) and BISC 100 (F 2020). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your grades ENGL 100, PSYC 100 and BISC 100 will appear on your transcript as CR.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances and since you have sought out help from your health care professionals. But I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I would encourage you to work with your health care team and consider registering with QSAS if you have not done so already. A QSAS Advisor can help you manage both your health and your academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. I also encourage you to reach out to the Faculty Academic Advising service for assistance with Plan selection and course planning. You can set up an appointment with an Academic Advisor by calling 613-533-2470.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
