I have carefully considered your appeal credit standing in CHIN 100 (Fall/Winter 2021) and after reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control.
I acknowledge that you did not disclose the nature of your extenuating circumstances with your instructor or the health-care professional that you contacted in December of 2020 and was happy to read that you were eventually able to get the accommodations that you needed in this class in the middle of the Winter portion of this class. I realize that this is a disappointment decision however as your extenuating circumstances began well before the Academic Drop Deadline and you didn€™t secure the appropriate accommodations until months later, I simply cannot grant your request for Credit Standing in this class.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must do so within 21 days of receiving this letter.
