Student Name: Robert Leighton Cooke
Student Email: robb.cc@gmail.com

Course: BIOL102
Term: Winter
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Robert Cooke:

I was sorry to read that you have been struggling to manage this course along with your unexpected work commitments. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop BIOL 102 (Winter 2021) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I want you to know that this was a very lenient decision Robert as typically, work related, competing commitments are not grounds for an appeal. In general, an appeal would be successful when there are significantly extenuating circumstances, which would merit the waiving of an academic regulation. I acknowledge that your mental health was impacted by these unexpected work responsibilities and along with the supporting documentation that you submitted to support this appeal, I am happy to grant your request at this time.

Going forward, you should pause to evaluate the impact of your life challenges on your studies before the Academic Deadline of each term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course at that time. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
