Dear Mr. Jafar:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop GEOL 104 and CHEM 112B (W 2014) past the academic deadline as well as receive Credit standing in CISC 101 (F 2013), MATH 111B, MATH 121B and PHYS 104B (W 2014). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I would like to note that while I am granting your appeal, I remain very concerned about your academic plan. If you pursue any Plan in Physics, Dr. Fraser strongly recommends that you retake PHYS 104 next year. It is essential that you have a strong understanding of this foundational material otherwise you will struggle in any upper year Physics courses. If you fail to follow this advice, any future appeal to drop upper year Physics courses will not be viewed favourably. I also strongly endorse your plan to continue working with your psychiatrist and I would suggest that you register with Disability Services as early as possible in September to ensure that your academic accommodations can be arranged in a timely manner. I recommend that for the upcoming academic year you take a reduced course load to allow yourself the time you need to manage your ongoing personal challenges as well as allow you more time to concentrate on your coursework and studying to ensure academic success. Finally, I urge you to continue seeking regular academic advising throughout the year and if you feel that you are struggling to drop courses as needed within the academic deadlines. Any further appeals to the Faculty Office must demonstrate that you followed these steps and took the advice from your healthcare and academic support systems.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
