Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 7926
Decision Date: July 6, 2021

Student Name: Emily Ranft
Student Email: emily.ranft@hotmail.com
Dear Emily Ranft:
I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal the challenges you have outlined; I am sure it is difficult to manage that situation. I have reviewed your request to complete 18.0 units on a Letter of Permission for your BA (Honours) degree with a Major concentration in English and a Minor concentration in Religious Studies at the University of British Columbia. As you know, Regulation 14.4 indicates that €œnormally the last two years of the Honours degree are taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen€™s.€ However, given the circumstances explained in your letter of appeal, and the support of the English Department, I agree to this request. Please consult with your departments regularly to ensure that the courses you select will properly fulfill the Queen€™s requirements for your degree.
You must now apply for a Letter of Permission. Information regarding that process is available at the following website:
https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/letter-of-permission
Please allow up to 21 days to receive a response.
Note that official transcripts with final grades must be received by the Faculty of Arts and Science Office upon completion of the courses. Please keep in mind that you must achieve a minimum grade of C on each course taken on a Letter of Permission, unless stated otherwise.
Finally, please be advised that a student can complete a maximum of 54.0 transfer units towards their BA Honours degree (see Academic Regulation 16.1.3).
I wish you well in your studies while attending the University of British Columbia and in your future undertakings.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
