Dear Malcolm Garvey:

I am sorry to read that you struggled to manage courses along with challenges related to your health and COVID19. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop HIST 106 and PHIL 157 (W 2021) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Going forward, I suggest that you pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of the each term and if you have fallen behind in your courses due to health or other circumstances, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop date deadline. Typically, appeals are granted due to circumstances that occur after the drop date deadline. I also encourage you to continue to work with Student Wellness Services and take note of the academic consideration process where you can request short term consideration if you need leeway with due dates. Here is the link on our web site where you can learn more about that process:

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Best of luck in your degree progression.

Yours sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
