Dear Daman Brar:

I have carefully considered your appeal for an Extension of the Deadline to Submit Incomplete Work or to Complete a Deferred Examination in a Class in PHIL 318, PHIL 330, PHIL 256, PHIL 410 (Fall 2019) and PHIL 247 (Fall 2020). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

1. To grant your request for an Extension of the Deadline to Submit Incomplete Work or to Complete a Deferred Examination in PHIL 247 (Fall 2020). I acknowledge that this is your second attempt taking this class and am happy to report that your instructor has generously offered to accept the outstanding components during the Summer 2021 term. You are permitted up to August 31, 2021 at the latest to complete these and it is your responsibility to contact Professor Krishnamurthy to make the appropriate arrangements.

2. To deny your request for an Extension of the Deadline to Submit Incomplete Work or to Complete a Deferred Examination in PHIL 318, PHIL 330, PHIL 256 and PHIL 410 (Fall 2019). I acknowledge that the supporting documentation that you supplied indicates an ongoing academic impact of your extenuating circumstances since July of 2019 and I want to commend you for remaining connected with the appropriate professional supports since this time. I understand that this is a disappointing decision however, it is not clear from your appeal request why you didn€™t drop these impacted 2019 Fall term courses before the academic drop deadline and why you continued to take new courses after the term had ended without completing the outstanding work. The information that I received from your instructors indicates that you had been granted consideration in some of these courses yet failed to produce the outstanding work during the subsequent term where I see that you were able to successfully complete new classes. As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines, and it is the student€™s responsibility to inform themselves of these deadlines as they are outlined in the Important Dates section on the Arts and Science web page. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control. Going forward I would suggest that you take some time to assess how to best manage your academics along with your ongoing health challenges.
