Year: 2021
Category: Request aegrotat (AG) standing in a course or courses
Instructor: Dr. Patrick Costigan

Dear Maya Ginzburg:

I have carefully considered your appeal for Aegrotat Standing in KNPE 354 (Winter 2021). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.

I acknowledge that you were impacted with health issues at the end of the Winter term and that you were provided accommodations in other classes at that time however, the documentation that you supplied suggests that the academic impact of your circumstances ended on June 2, 2021. In order to ensure that you have demonstrated proficiency in all of the course material of KNPE 354 and to protect the integrity of your transcript, my preferred approach at this time is that you complete the outstanding work in this class during the current Summer 2021 term.

According to Regulation 10.3.4 ?? Incomplete (IN), ??Incomplete standing (IN) is a temporary designation reserved for a course in which a student who, because of extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, has not completed all term work for a course or requests permission to defer the writing of a final examination. The student must have participated actively in the class and only one or two elements of the class may be outstanding.? The information that I received from your instructor indicates that you have two outstanding components in this class, including the final exam. As your instructor has agreed to accept these components late, you are permitted up to August 31, 2021 at the latest to complete them and it is your responsibility to contact Dr. Costigan to make the appropriate arrangements.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean??s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on ??Board of Studies?). You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).

Sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
