I carefully considered your appeal for credit standing in ECON 250 (Winter 2021) and to drop MATH 126 (Fall/Winter 2020/2021) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control.
I want to remind you that the Faculty of Arts and Science offers several remedies such as Academic Consideration which I see that you utilized on a few occasions during the 2020/2021 academic year. I acknowledge that you were doing well in ECON 110 up until the end of the Winter term but it is unclear why you wrote the final exam while impacted by your circumstances instead of requesting a deferral at that time. It also appears from the information provided by your MATH 126 instructor that your grades in this class were quite low as you did not complete multiple components throughout the academic year before your extenuating circumstances began.
I am certainly sympathetic to your situation however I see that you were able to successfully complete other classes during the Winter 2021 term despite your circumstances. I realize that this is a disappointing decision but with the absence of documentation to support the timeline and severity of your extenuating circumstances, as well as to confirm the academic impacts of such circumstances on these specific courses, I cannot grant your request at this time.
