Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 7787
Decision Date: August 10, 2021
Associate Dean: Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Cassiel Penalosa
Student Email: 20cmp@queensu.ca
Course: SOCY122
Term: Fall/Winter
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Cassiel Penalosa:
I have carefully considered your appeal to drop SOCY 122 (2020 Fall/2021 Winter) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
Although I see that you were able to successfully complete other courses during the 2021 Winter term despite your extenuating circumstances, I have granted this appeal based on the documented Academic Consideration request that you had in March as it is clear that your academic ability was impacted during this time period. I want to remind you that going forward, you will be expected to pause to evaluate your progress in each of your courses during week 7 of the term so that you can carefully consider dropping courses that you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult before the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the ??Important Dates? section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Yours sincerely,
Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
