Dear Sheila Thompson:
I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal that you have had a difficult term and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ANAT 100 (S 2021) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have exercised significant leniency in this decision since an appeal to drop a course late would normally not be granted based on circumstances related to a job. However, you have provided documentation confirming mental health challenges, which, combined with a science topic and a job, may have indeed overwhelmed you.
Going forward you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on our academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline. Please do not wait until you receive your grades and then request a drop for those that are failures.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class. Here is the link for information about that process:
