Dear Navdeep Brar:
I have carefully read your letter of appeal seeking Credit standing in MUSC 171 (S 2021) and, after evaluating the documentation related to this appeal, have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.? Credit standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student??s control. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
I realize that this is a disappointing decision, however, there is no documentation submitted which confirms the impact your health related circumstance had on this course and IT issues related to the submission of your exam are not considered extenuating circumstances. Additionally, credit standing is an appeal option for students who complete all the components of a course, and since you did not submit the final exam (for various undocumented reasons), you do not qualify for credit standing. I did look into the option of amending the appeal to Aegrotat standing, but the information from your instructor indicates that the grades achieved on the submitted work accurately reflects the learning outcomes you achieved in this course and are an accurate reflection of your mastery of the course content. Therefore, the F grade will stand.
