Dear Marisa Pizzolat:

I am sorry to have read that your health issues continued to impact your studies during the Winter term 2021 and have decided to grant your request to drop MATH 121 (FW 2020/21).

I have granted this appeal based on your health-related challenges as well as the additional extenuating circumstances you outlined and for which you provided documentation. I am also pleased to see that you have been referred to a psychiatrist and that you are also seeking counseling through our Student Wellness Services. I encourage you to discuss with your health care team the possibility of registering with Queen??s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS). A QSAS Advisor can help you manage the impact of your??health??on your??academics.????

I do need to warn you again that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. An appeal based on the same circumstances may not be granted in the future. Going forward, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the deadline is our??Academic Consideration service.?? A??student can request short term??consideration??if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to an extenuating circumstance. Here is the link for information about that process:?????? https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/undergrad-students/academic-consideration-for-students

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
