Course: STAM200
Term: Summer
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Ramsha Nawaz:

I was sorry to read of the challenges you have outlined in your letter of appeal, and I have carefully considered your request to drop STAM 200 (S 2021) past the academic drop deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances and the impact the severe weather had on your internet connections. But this is a lenient decision since IT challenges are not normally considered extenuating circumstances, instead late drops are designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline.

Going forward, I would strongly suggest that you carefully assess your progress in courses prior to the drop deadlines and if you have fallen behind due to any number of reasons, you should drop courses by that deadline.

I would like to point out that I confirmed with the Registrar??s office that you are able to drop a course on SOLUS with a debt. The reason that you may not have been able to drop STAM 200 was because you attempted to drop that course on July 27th which was after the drop deadline.

I was pleased to see that you were in communication with your instructor and that you took advantage of our Academic Consideration process with the hope that would give you sufficient time to get back on track with this course.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Yours sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
