I was sorry to read in your letter of appeal the challenges you outlined and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop COMM 231 (F 2019); FILM 210 (W 2020); ECON 222 (F 2020) past the academic deadline, as well as receive Credit standing in HLTH 101 (W 2019); POLS 110 (FW 2018/19); ECON 112 (F 2019); ECON 243, ECON 290, FILM 218, FILM 336 (W 2020). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your grades in HLTH 101, POLS 110, ECON 112, ECON 243, ECON 290, FILM 218, FILM 336 will appear on your transcript as CR.

I have granted this appeal based on the input we received from your instructors, the Bader International Study Centre and Student Affairs, but most importantly I have spoken to Haley Everson who has confirmed your ongoing connection with Student Wellness Services and QSAS and I encourage you to continue to be vigilant by connecting to those supports.

Matthew, I understand that you experienced a different extenuating circumstance during the Summer term 2021. Based on that circumstances and support from Haley, I am also willing to drop FILM 341 (W 2021) which I understand you were planning to complete but were unable to due to your mother??s illness. If you wish to accept that offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and I will also drop that course past the academic drop deadline.

I do need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing challenges. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, you should pause and evaluate your progress in your courses prior to week 8 of each term during the academic year and drop courses which are affected by extenuating circumstances.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
