Dear Maggie Caplan:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal that you had a difficult summer term and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PSYC 271, GEOL 106, CLST 205, PHGY 170 and FREN 106 (S 2021) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on??documentation provided but going forward you will be responsible for managing your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the course(s) to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline. Please do not wait until you receive your grades and then request a drop for those that are failures. I also strongly suggest that you to carry a lighter course load during summer term. Registering in five courses during the summer term is excessive and is well outside of our recommended two course registration during summer term.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
