Dear Rylee North:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal that you had a difficult summer term, and I am sorry for your loss. I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PHGY 170 and IDIS 173 (S 2021) past the academic deadline and after reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on the circumstances outlined but this sad loss did occur before the drop deadline, and I would strongly suggest that going forward you carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the drop deadline. If you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline. Please do not wait until you receive your grades and then request a drop for those that are failures.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop deadline is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to extenuating circumstances. Rylee, I strongly encourage you to consider reaching out to our Student Wellness Services office if you would like to discuss this loss with a health professional who may be able to help you deal with the grief you may be experiencing.
