Dear Bridgette Doorey:

I have carefully considered your appeal for Aegrotat Standing in DEVS 240 (W21) and to drop COGS 100, DEVS 392, and LAW 202 (S21) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

To grant your request for Aegrotat Standing in DEVS 240 (W21) due to the strong support that you have received from the instructor. Your instructor has already submitted a replacement grade based on the work you have completed which will appear on your transcript as a B- along with the notation ??Aegrotat: estimated grade.?

To deny your request to drop COGS 100, DEVS 392, and LAW 202 (S21) past the academic deadline. While I acknowledge that you had unexpected family-related responsibilities during the 2021 Summer term, your documentation indicates that these circumstances began on May 8, 2021, which would have given you time to assess your progress in your courses and drop them before the academic drop deadline. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling reasons indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond their control which occurred or become significantly more acute after the drop deadline..

Going forward, I would suggest that you do not take more than the recommended number of classes per term. A maximum of 15.0 units is recommended for the Fall/Winter terms and a maximum of 6.0 units is recommended for the Summer term.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean??s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on ??Board of Studies?).??You may contact the Office of the Ombudsman (www.queensu.ca/ombudsman) for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative.??

Sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
