Dear Mit Patel:
I have carefully considered your appeal to add CLST 102 (F 2021) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s ability to add a course within the deadline was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond their control.
The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload.
Mit, although you have identified challenges which caused you to miss the last date to add a course, those circumstances are not documented. Additionally, I am concerned that the family issues that led to your inability to meet the add deadline, which you indicate have continued to ??regress?, may make it difficult for you to catch up in this course at this late date and I am not convinced that adding this course late is a good academic decision as you refocus on your academics.
For your information, registration for our Summer term on-line courses begins in November and I would encourage you to review the course offerings that will be available during that upcoming term. The summer term on-line courses will be available shortly and can be found at https://www.queensu.ca/artsci_online/.
