I have carefully considered your appeal to add MUSC 412, and MUSC 420 (FW 2021/2022) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s ability to add a course within the deadline was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond their control.
I see that you had been able to access enrolment in SOLUS during the months of August and September and have added and dropped other courses before the Academic Deadline. I also want to point out that you are currently enrolled in three courses for the 2021 Fall term and that adding additional academic responsibilities this late in the term would not be an advised academic decision. The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload. I realize that this is a disappointing decision, however, with the absence of an unexpected extenuating circumstance that would have prevented you from meeting the add deadline for these additional courses, as well as supporting documentation to verify your circumstances, I cannot waive the Faculty Regulation.
