Dear Austin Daya:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal the circumstances you outlined, and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop LAW 201 and GNDS 212 (F 2020) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, as well as your grades during Winter term 2021 which improved once your medication was adjusted, I have decided to grant your request.

Going forward you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on our academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses during week 7 of the term and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline. Please do not wait until you receive your grades and then request a drop for those that are failures.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by Week 8 is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to extenuating circumstances. Austin, I strongly encourage you continue to work with a health professional and to proactively manage the impact of our condition on your academics. If this is a chronic condition, please talk to your health professional about the possibility of registering with QSAS.
