I have carefully considered your appeal to add PSYC 100, DRAM 100, POLS 110 (FW 2021/22) and CISC 101, GPHY 102 (F 2021) after the academic deadline and to drop CISC 101, PSYC 100, WRIT 125 (S 2021). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines and that courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students?? records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student??s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control.
The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established in order to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload. Your record Nanjia indicates that adding courses late is not advisable and I am not convinced that adding courses late is a good academic decision as you work towards getting your academics back on track. Additionally, you were unable to provide an explanation of extenuating circumstances or provide documentation which prevented your from registering in courses by the last date to do so. A financial hold is not considered an extenuating circumstance.
With regards to your request to drop your Summer term 2021 courses late, I am sorry that your mother was ill but the documentation you submitted indicates that your mother??s illness was prior to the drop dates (drop date for CISC 101 was June 4 and drop date for PSYC 100 & WRIT 125 was July 2). Additionally, the documentation submitted does not provide me with information related to how your studies were impacted by your mother??s circumstances.
