Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Caleb Asseltine:
I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal the circumstances outlined and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PHIL 111 and PSYC 100 (FW 2019/20) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have granted this appeal based on your documentation and your decision to carry a lighter course load this year. However, going forward you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on our academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses during week 7 of the term and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in a course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline. Please do not wait until you receive your grades and then request a drop for those that are failures.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by Week 8 is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class. Here is the link for information about that process:

Caleb, I strongly encourage you continue to work with your health professionals and to proactively manage the impact of our condition on your academics. If this is a chronic condition, please talk to your counsellor about the possibility of registering with QSAS if you are not registered currently. A QSAS??Advisor??can help put into place appropriate accommodations to help you manage the impact of your health on your academics.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Best of luck in your degree progression.
Sincerely,
Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
