Dear Cameron Biniaris:
I was sorry to read of the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal and understand that these were difficult circumstances to deal with. I have carefully considered your appeal receive Credit standing in GHPY 101 (F 2018); receive Aegrotat standing in RELS 162 and HLTH 101 (F 2018); and drop CLST 102, GEOL 106 (F 2019) past the academic drop deadline. After reviewing your file I have decided the following:
1. To grant your request for Credit standing GPHY 101 (F 2018). Your grade in that course will appear on your transcript as CR.
2. To deny your request for Aegrotat standing in RELS 162 and HLTH 101 (F 2018). The instructor of HLTH 101 has advised that you received a Finding of a Departure from Academic Integrity in that course so changing the grade to CR standing in HLTH 101 is not possible. I have denied the request for AG standing in RELS 162 due to the time lapse from Fall term 2018 and the inability to receive accurate information regarding the course work completed and learning outcomes met, as well as a prorated grade. Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60% of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)?. Aegrotat standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student??s control preventing them from completing the course within the term, or within an extended period of time, and the learning outcomes of the course have been satisfied.
3. To grant your request to drop CLST 102 and GEOL 106 (F 2019) and I will also drop RELS 162 (F 2018) due to the circumstances you have outlined.
I have granted this appeal due to the difficulty you had adjusting to university life and the challenges regarding the depression and anxiety you explained. Going forward however, I will require documentation from a health care provider to support extenuating circumstances should you appeal again in the future.
Cameron, I encourage you to seek out medical supports if your health-related circumstances continue and I strongly suggest that you pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of term. If you have fallen behind in your studies due to your health or other extenuating circumstances, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean??s decision to the Board of Studies, of you must do so within 21 days of receiving this letter.
