Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 8322
Decision Date: November 19, 2021
Associate Dean: Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Natally Widdis
Student Email: 18nvw1@queensu.ca
Course: POLS 230
Term: Fall
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Natally Widdis:
I am sorry to read in your letter of appeal that you have been having a difficult term and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop POLS 230 (F 20121) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have granted this appeal based on your engagement with a Counsellor and due to your plans to register with QSAS who will help you manage both your health and your academics. It is my expectation that, once you are registered with QSAS, you will assess your progress in your courses with your QSAS Advisor during week 7 or 8 each term. If you find that you have fallen behind in your attendance, readings or assignments, it is your responsibility to drop by the end of week 8. Appeals for late drops are typically only granted when a problem occurs, or becomes acute, after the drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Best of luck in your degree progression.
Yours sincerely,
Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
