Dear Michael Edwards:
I have carefully considered your appeal for Aegrotat Standing in MICR 270 (W21) and for an Extension of the Deadline to Submit Incomplete Work or to Complete a Deferred Examination in a Class in BCHM 270 (W21) and CHEM 281 (F20). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
1. To grant your request for Aegrotat Standing in MICR 270 (W21) as you have completed 60% of the work in this class and your instructor supports your request and prefers it over offering another exam sitting. Your instructor has already submitted a replacement grade based on the work you have completed which will appear on your transcript as a grade of ?A-?? along with the notation ??Aegrotat: estimated grade?.
2. To deny your request for an Extension of the Deadline to Submit Incomplete Work or to Complete a Deferred Examination in a Class in BCHM 270 (W21) and CHEM 281 (F20). You have been offered multiple exam deferrals in both of these classes, including dates within the 2021 Summer term as late as August 26 ?? 27. The documentation that you supplied indicates that your academics were impacted up until May 25, 2021 and do not speak to the Summer 2021 term. With the absence of documentation from a professional to verify that you were unable to write these exams during the agreed upon deferred dates during the Summer term, I cannot waive this regulation.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean??s decision to the Board of Studies, information about this appeal option and the 21 day deadline can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on ??Board of Studies?). You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).
Sincerely,
Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
