I am sorry to have read about the challenges you reported in your letter of appeal, and I have carefully considered your request to add CHEM 112 (FW 2021/22) back, after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
Kaitlin, although I understand that you experienced challenges and received information that you reported misguided you, I am not convinced that adding this course late is a good academic decision as you work towards getting your health back on track. The instructor was contacted and was concerned that you have missed several major quizzes and multiple labs, which, due to department rules, would have had to be made up. Additionally, the material missed is detailed and complex and adding such a course at this stage of the academic year would not be in your best interests.
For your information, registration for our Summer term on-line courses began on November 1st and you may want to consider registering for CHEM 113 (Summer term May 9th ?? June 17) and CHEM 114 (July 4 ?? August 12). The on-line courses and descriptions can be found at https://www.queensu.ca/artsci_online/.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean??s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on ??Board of Studies?). You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).
Student Academic Appeals Policy (SAAP) or Rules of Procedure for USAB are Queen??s university Senate approved appeal policies. In the event that an inconsistency arises between these policies and Arts & Science regulations, SAAP and USAB will supersede.
