Dear Maria Menzies:
I read with interest the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal and your request to receive extensions of Incomplete Grades in POLS 419, POLS 431, DEVS 221 (W 2021). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
1. I will grant your request to extend the Incomplete grades in POLS 419 and POLS 431 due to the course requirements left to be completed and the support received from your instructors in these courses. You are permitted up to April 30, 2022 at the latest to complete the outstanding assignments in these courses and it is your responsibility to contact your instructors to make the appropriate arrangements.
2. I will deny your request to extend the Incomplete grade in DEVS 221 due to the significant amount of work outstanding in that course.
Going forward you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the course to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. You may contact the Office of the Ombudsman (www.queensu.ca/ombudsman) for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative.
Student Academic Appeals Policy (SAAP) or Rules of Procedure for USAB are Queen??s university Senate approved appeal policies. In the event that an inconsistency arises between these policies and Arts & Science regulations, SAAP and USAB will supersede.
