Decision Letter

Appeal Number: 8387
Decision Date: November 30, 2021
Associate Dean: Amitava Chowdhury, Ph.D.
Student Name: Liam Toward
Student Email: l.toward@queensu.ca

Course: PHGY 215
Term: Fall
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Liam Toward:

I am sorry to have read in your letter of appeal that you have had a difficult term and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PHGY 215 (F 2021) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this appeal based on the??documentation provided and the impact a concussion can have on your studies. As noted in your previous letter related to appeal 8374, going forward you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 7 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

Liam, I strongly encourage you continue to work with your health care team and your QSAS Advisor who can help monitor the accommodations that are in place and the impact of your health on your academics.??

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Sincerely,

Amitava Chowdhury, Ph.D.
