Dear Derian Lenett:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop FILM 110 (FW 2020/2021) after the academic deadline and for Credit Standing in SOCY 122 (FW 2020/2021). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

1. To grant your request to drop FILM 110 (FW 2020/2021) after the academic deadline due to the unexpected remote learning challenges that you experienced during the 2020/2021 academic year related to the Covid-19 pandemic. I see that you reduced your course load in March of 2021 and I want to commend you on this decision as it is clear that you took the time to assess your progress in your courses before the Winter term drop deadline. Your grade in this course will be replaced with a ?DR?? notation on your transcript.

2. To deny your request to receive Credit Standing in SOCY 122 (FW 2020/2021). Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed all of the work in the course including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected.? The information that we received from your instructor indicates that you did not submit many of the components required to meet the learning outcomes of the class before completing the Winter Essay in March nor did you make any requests for Academic Consideration for these missing components. These components included a topic for approval, a research essay worksheet, the annotated bibliography, and a draft thesis statement. As you did not complete all components of this course, you are not eligible for Credit Standing in it. I understand that this is a disappointing decision but let me also remind you that if a student repeats a course, both grades will appear on their transcript but only the higher grade will be included within their cumulative GPA.
