Dear Yema Quinn:

I was sorry to read about the challenges you outlined in your letter of appeal, and I have carefully considered your appeal to drop BIOL 350, PSYC 332 (F 2014), BIOL 303, BIOL 322, IDIS 302, PSYC 351, PSYC 398 (W 2015) past the academic deadline and receive Credit standing in PSYC 333, BIOL 330, BIOL 339 (F 2014). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your grade in PSYC 333, BIOL 330, BIOL 339 will appear on your transcript as CR.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances, but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. Instead, I would encourage you to continue to work with your health professionals, and to follow through with your plan to register with QSAS. A QSAS Advisor can help you to manage both your health and academics which could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 7. If you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Best of luck with your degree progression.

Yours sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
