Dear Mikaela Naumann:
I was sorry to read of the circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal, no doubt the exacerbation of a chronic medical condition has impacted your studies this term. Based on your circumstances and your documentation, I will grant your appeal to drop GNDS 340 (F 2021) past the academic deadline.
I encourage you to continue to work with your health care provider and to consider registering with QSAS if you have not done so already. A QSAS Advisor can help support both your health and academics by putting in place appropriate accommodations so you can meet your course work requirements.
Going forward you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to week 7 and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances.
