Dear Connor Button:

I was sorry to read of the circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal, no doubt this has been a difficult time for you and your family and I will grant your appeal to drop CISC 124, LLCU 200, ECON 250, ECON 212 and CISC 102 (F 2021) past the academic deadline.

I encourage you to follow through with your plan to work with a Counsellor at Student Wellness Services and if your circumstances require ongoing accommodations in the future, you may want to register with QSAS who can help support both your health and academics by putting in place appropriate accommodations so you can meet your course work requirements.

Going forward, a good practise for all students is to carefully evaluate their progress in courses prior to week 7 and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
