I was sorry to read of the circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal, no doubt the health challenges you have outlined have impacted your studies this term. Based on your circumstances and your documentation, I will grant your appeal to drop HLTH 101 and POLS 280 (F 2021) past the academic deadline.
Naomi, I encourage you to continue to work with your health care team and your QSAS Advisor who can offer support for both your health and academics. I am also pleased to see that you plan on carrying a lighter course load next term so you can focus on your health.
Going forward you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the appeal process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to week 7 and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding.
