I was sorry to read of the circumstances you outlined in your letter of appeal. No doubt this has been a difficult time for you and your family, and I am very sorry for your loss. I will certainly grant your appeal to drop GNDS 335 (F 2021) past the academic deadline based on that circumstance.

I encourage you to continue to work with your counsellor as you manage your grief, and if your circumstances require ongoing accommodations Vanessa, you may want to register with QSAS who can help support both your health and academics by putting in place appropriate accommodations so you can meet your course work requirements.

Going forward, I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to week 7 and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in the courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
