I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Aegrotat standing in POLS 212, POLS 384 and POLS 364 (W 2015). After reviewing your file I will grant your request for POLS 384 and POLS 364 but I must unfortunately deny your request for POLS 212.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.2.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all of the work of the course.€ The Appeal Regulations go on to stress that Aegrotat standing will only be granted under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond her control.
While your appeal does certainly describe some circumstances that are extenuating in nature and there is supporting documentation to confirm them, you have not completed enough evaluative work in POLS 212 to be eligible for Aegrotat standing. Professor Bastedo confirmed that due to your lack of participation in the course you have not demonstrated enough mastery of the material to be granted credit for the course. However, given your circumstances, Professor Bastedo is willing to allow you to write a deferred exam in the fall, after your recovery. If you would like to accept this offer, please contact Professor Bastedo directly to confirm the necessary arrangements.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
