Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 8473
Decision Date: December 22, 2021
Associate Dean: Amitava Chowdhury, Ph.D.
Student Name: Emily Savoia
Student Email: 20es40@queensu.ca
Course: BIOL 102
Term: Fall
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Emily Savoia:
I was sorry to read that you experienced health related challenges this term. Based on your letter and your documentation, I will grant your appeal to drop BIOL 102 (F 2021) past the academic deadline.
Emily, I encourage you to continue to work with your health professionals and if ongoing accommodation are needed in the future if you return to Queen??s, you may want to consider registering with QSAS. A QSAS Advisor can offer support for both your health and academics. Going forward, a good practise for all students is to carefully evaluate your progress in your courses prior to week 7 and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date, if you resume your studies at Queen??s, is our Academic Consideration service. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Here is the link for information about that process:

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Best of luck with your future plans.
Sincerely,
Amitava Chowdhury, Ph.D.
