Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 8276
Decision Date: January 4, 2022
Associate Dean: Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Michael Edwards
Student Email: michaeledwards1@yahoo.ca
Course: BCHM218
Term: Fall/Winter
Year: 2021
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Instructor: Dr. Edmond Chan
Dear Michael Edwards:
I have carefully considered your appeal to drop BCHM 218 (W21) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
The documentation that you supplied indicates that your academics were impacted up until May 25, 2021 and do not speak to any additional extenuating circumstances that you described in your appeal letter. The information that I received from your instructor confirms that you were accommodated appropriately in this class with multiple exam deferral dates that you agreed to each time. Some of these deferrals were provided to you without requiring additional documentation which exceeds an instructor??s duty to accommodate. I acknowledge that you have ongoing accommodations through QSAS related to your health however, because your documentation indicates that you were able to meet the demands of school during the deferral dates that were offered to you for this class during the Summer 2021 term, I cannot waive this regulation.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean??s decision to the Board of Studies, information about this appeal option and the 21 day deadline can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on ??Board of Studies?). You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities as well as guidance on policy and procedure (www.queensu.ca/ombuds).
Sincerely,
Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
